In a landmark achievement, CDL (City Developments Limited) has been recognized as the only Singapore property company to feature in the inaugural edition of the FT-Nikkei Climate Leaders Asia Pacific 2022 Award. The award, which was launched by the Financial Times and the Nikkei, recognises the most ambitious climate leaders in the Asia-Pacific region and acknowledges those who have taken extraordinary steps to combat the climate crisis.
CDL’s recognition is a testament to its unwavering commitment towards sustainability and its dedication to developing green, sustainable cities. The award criteria were stringent, and companies had to demonstrate their commitment to tackling climate change and achieving net-zero emissions by 2025.
CDL has long been at the forefront of sustainability in Asia. It has been recognised for its commitment to environmental, social and governance (ESG) since the early 2000s. CDL has been a pioneer in the implementation of environmental stewardship initiatives and has consistently raised the bar for the property industry in Singapore and across the region.
Since 2018, CDL has achieved a total of eight sustainability certifications from major external ratings agencies such as the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB) and the Singapore Green Building Product and Performance Label. CDL also boasts a portfolio of over 30 green buildings and has achieved a total of 77 awards and accolades for its sustainability efforts.
CDL has also been active in developing new technologies to reduce energy and water consumption, such as the intelligent building management system, Smart Building Solutions (SBS). SBS uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to optimise energy consumption in buildings, and CDL has implemented it in over two million square feet of its gross floor area.
CDL is constantly exploring new and innovative ways to reduce its carbon footprint and promote green practices. It has committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2025 and has already reduced its emissions intensity by 24% since 2013. CDL is also exploring the use of renewable energy sources such as solar panels, and is looking into the use of hydrogen and biofuel as alternative energy sources.
In addition to its efforts to reduce emissions, CDL is also actively working to conserve natural resources. CDL has implemented water-saving initiatives such as the installation of dual-flush toilets and low-flow taps, and has also launched initiatives to improve air quality, such as the installation of green walls and green roofs. CDL is also committed to improving biodiversity, and has established a partnership with the National Parks Board to plant more than 10,000 trees.
CDL’s commitment to sustainability has been further recognised through its inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) APAC, as well as the FTSE4Good Index Series.
The FT-Nikkei Climate Leaders Asia Pacific 2022 Award is a powerful testament to CDL’s commitment to sustainability, and its recognition as the only Singapore property company to be featured is a valuable endorsement of its efforts. With its continued dedication to green practices and sustainability, CDL is well-positioned to lead the way in creating a sustainable future.
